Preparing a Shipment
At SDN we strive to not only provide high quality plants at reasonable prices, but, we also strive to minimize our ecological impact in the nursery as well as with our shipping practices.
How plants are prepared for shipping:
- Each plant is visually inspected and provided a light Neem treatment to discourage any stowaways.
- Rooted plants are separated from their plastic grow pots.
- Excess soil is also removed to reducing shipping weight costs and fuel.
- The plants are gently "repotted" into fully biodegradable mesh bags intended to be sown directly upon arrival-- it is not necessary to remove.
- The rooting zone is lightly moistened for transit to protect the delicate rootlets.
- Everything is wrapped snugly in recyclable/compostable wax free butcher paper using compostable tape.
- Certified compostable 'masking tape' is used, and occasionally a staple or two, as necessary.
- SDN tries to also use Honeycomb packing paper as much as possible since it is recyclable or compostable.
We make these extra efforts for:
- the plants,
- for our clients,
- and for the planet.
