Rooting Zone Soilless Soil

Many early years were spent studying the most vital, yet invisible, portion of the plant: the root zone. The root zone is what ultimately determines the strength and health of the plant.  Therefore, the interaction and interplay between the soil, the root structures and the exchange of air, water and nutrients should theoretically be every plant parents' primary concern, but, foliage and flower normally take precedent.

To distill a large amount of information into something for everyone:

  • A plant grows roots
  • The roots grow white hair-like structures called rootlets.
  • The rootlets perform most of the dynamic exchanges within the growing media, and can grow by the mile if measured.
  • In order to optimize their efficiency, it is important to provide the right environment: moist but not soggy, relatively neutral pH, plenty of air and enough available nutrients, both micro and macro.

I have a blended ingredient recipe that is designed especially for the root zone. It is close to, but different from a standard orchid mix, but functions similarly.

SDN's Rooting Zone Soilless Soil is perfect for plants that thrive with good drainage, and, it is designed as a growing media for directly around the root zone for virtually all plants to satisfy the above conditions.

It was formulated as a buffer zone between a plant and potting soils, and is sold in 1 quart bags very economically. (It also serves as an excellent and utilitarian packing material for shipping)

Unlike a classic orchid mix it possess ingredients designed to retain a small amount of moisture in various ways, which further reduces the need to water.
