Ficus elastica 'Robusta' or Green Rubber Plant

Botanical Name: Ficus elastica 'Robusta'

Native Region/Environment: Nepal, Malaysia, India and China

Sun/Light: Direct morning light then bright, indirect light.  Midday, direct light may scorch the leaves.  It does not thrive in very low light or excessive direct light conditions. Insufficient light conditions will cause a leggy appearance.

Temperature: Indoor house plant in warm with part sun and temperatures of 65-85F degrees. Outdoors in USDA Zones 10-12.

The lower the temperature the higher the light requirements and conversely the hotter the temperature the more shade is preferred.

Avoid drafts. It will drop leaves especially in a cold draft environment. 

Water: Prefers consistent moisture but avoid overwatering or standing water.  Allow the top inch to dry between watering,

Soil: Fertile and fast draining.

Growth Pattern: Unrestricted it will grow in tree form.  Pruning will create a bushy or hedge shape and often it is planted several stems dense to create a fuller feel, especially as an indoor plant.

Mature Size: In tree form in it's native environment it may grow 60' high, in a naturalized environment it may grow to 30' and as an indoor plant it likely reach 6' to 8', at most.

Attributes: Extremely beautiful, thick leathery leaves in spots, splotches, splashes and streaks of creams, yellows, mint and lime green colors.  A true specimen plant.
