Botanical Name: Epipremnum aureum 'Hawaiian Pothos'

Native Region/Environment: French Polynesia

Sun/Light: Limited direct, prefers bright, indirect light

Temperature: Indoor plant with minimum temperature above 60 degrees; outdoor is USDA Zones 11-12.

Water: As a house plant more Hawaiian pothos die from overwatering than anything else.  An occasional to frequent mist on the leaves and canes is great but allow the potting soil to dry half way.  Water until it runs through the pot and then allow the pot to drain.  Do not leave in excessive standing water for prolonged periods. Dry is better than wet.

Soil: Quick draining, fertile loose soil.

Growth Pattern: Hawaiian pothos are climbers in their natural habitat and will grow aerial roots as they grow to attach and for support.  Moss poles are highly recommended, or some climbing structure, to maximize their immense natural beauty.

Mature Size: Variable.  It really depends upon the growing conditions.  Immature leaves will be heart shaped and a few inches across whereas a fully mature leaf, under ideal growing conditions, will be almost 2' wide and 3' long.  A home with vaulted ceilings awash with bright indirect light from abundant windows will grow a far more substantial Hawaiian pothos than a room with a window that receives morning light only, but both will be variegated beauties.

A typical Hawaiian pothos may grow 7'-8' indoors whereas in the wild they may scale a 100' tree with 3" thick canes.

Attributes: Deeply variegated glossy juvenile leaves in predominantly sharp yellows on vibrant greens give way to intensely variegated whites, creams, yellows and greens as they mature, and the leaves lose their glossy appearance and go matte.

Pot: 3.5" or 4"

Regular pruning will encourage a thicker set. Fenestration occurs on older leaves to permit filtered light to lower leaves.  Good in hanging baskets too. Beautiful!
