Botanical Name: Heliconia psittacorum x spathocircinata 'Guadalupe'

Native Region/Environment: Tropical Americas

Sun/Light: Full sun to partial shade

Temperature: Outdoors they are die-back tender perennials and require over winter protection from frosts but freezes will be terminal.  Indoors are ideal year round

Water: Heliconia roots prefer to remain consistently moist but can occasionally tolerate brief dry periods.

Soil: Organically rich, moist but draining soil/

Growth Pattern: Upright arching out with a clumping base.  As with all heliconia it grows from a rhizome so it will slowly spread laterally, under ground, creating the clumping appearance.

Mature Size: Typically grows to height of 4'-5' but may reach 6'-7' under ideal conditions, with lush tropical leaves up to 3' long and 1' wide.

Attributes: Stunning long lasting flowers in reds, oranges and yellow with green accents.  Superb specimen plant in the garden with frost winter protection, as a patio potted plant or indoors provided ample light.

Heliconia 'Guadalupe' is over-all about twice the size of the common H. psittacorum's but otherwise is similar in appearance..

Attractor: Pollinators, insects and hummingbirds

Shipped as a bareroot, trimmed rhizome.

Under good growing conditions it should flower in the first year.

Heliconia 'Guadalupe' is not commonly available.
