Collection: Epipremnum

Epipremnum is a genus of flowering evergreen perennial vines originating from the tropical forests of China, Himalayas, Southeast Asia and Australia.  They are most often terrestrial plants capable of climbing great heights by the use of strong aerial roots.  Some Epipremnum are able to grow to large proportions with vines reaching up over 125' and leaves over 10' long.

Epipremnum is divided into two groups: E. aureum and E. pinnatum. Epipremnum aureum are also known as Devil's Ivy, and has heart shaped leaves with a glossy finish.  These are the regular Pothos plants.  Epipremnum pinnatum have elongated leaves, with a matte finish with characteristic wavy edges to leaves and the leaves fenestrate.

In a domesticated, non-native environment they grow to substantially smaller sizes, but are highly valued for their hardy resiliency, lush appearances and tropical heritage.

In temperate, indoor environments they are a popular and sought after houseplant.  Care should be taken though, as all parts are toxic, predominantly from trichosclereids, or long, sharp needle shaped cells designed to protect the plant from herbivores.
